HONDA 750EX-IS IT REAL?

hon750.jpg

After careful scrutiny by the Dirt Wheels crime lab, it has been determined that the photo of a so-called turbocharged Honda FourTrax 750EX which was featured in our April issue is a fraud. Mysteriously sent to the Dirt Wheels offices by an anonymous "insider", the realistic-looking photograph is apparently a pro-level, computer-generated conglomeration of several different vehicles.

From what we can gather, the engine is out of a Honda 916cc CBR-like cruiser street bike, some of the plastic is from Honda's new four-stroke watercraft, and the running gear and frame was taken directly from a studio photo of the new Suzuki Z-400 high-performance quad. The anonymous photo contributor called us once just before we went to press with the story and wanted to make sure it made it into the April issue, so I guess you could say we all got "April Fooled".

But it's not all bad news. Honda dealerships all across the nation have been deluged with excited ATVers wanting more information, and in some cases, offering to put downpayments on the first 750EX units shipped into the country! It's also a given that the head honchos at both American Honda and the Japanese main headquarters have seen the photo. This perhaps has stirred some interest in their minds, which can never be a bad thing as far as we're concerned.

ATV TELEVISION

tvshow.jpg

Doug Meyers new TV program called ATV Television premiered on the Outdoor Channel cable channel recently. The program is a tight, well produced and even-handed look at off-road ATV use that features adventure rides, machine reviews and wide-ranging looks at the wide world of all-terrain vehicles. It is shown on the Outdoor Channel. You can log-on to their website (www.outdoorchannel.com) to see when the program airs in your area (new programs debut each Saturday at 3:00 p.m. eastern time). Alert readers may note that a letter writer several months ago wrote to Dirt Wheels stating that he didnt like the ATV show he saw on cable, but he was referring to a Canadian production with a similar name.

High Lifter Products, Inc. is pleased to introduce the new Radial Outlaw ATV Tire! This is the smoothest riding ATV tire on the market! BUT, don't let the smooth ride fool you... it's still an Outlaw and will outperform any other tire on the trail! The traction is awesome!

Why would you want a Radial Outlaw as compared to other high quality ATV tires?

  • If you ride a lot on hard pack trails but you do get in the mud on occasion and you want both a glassy smooth ride and really good mud performance, you want a Radial Outlaw.
  • If you ride in a lot of snow or on icy trails or rocks, and you want the added traction of 3,000 biting edges of extensive sipes, you want a Radial Outlaw.
  • If you like the idea of added puncture resistance provided by 2 Kevlar Belts, you want a Radial Outlaw.
  • If you like the idea of 50% more pulling tread surface and the traction provided by tread bars wrapping 3" down each sidewall (total of 6 extra inches), you want a Radial Outlaw.
  • If you like the idea of rocks, roots, stumps, etc... not being able to bend the edges of your wheel or knock off your bead because of the recessed wheel bead seat, you want a Radial Outlaw.
  • If you like the idea that these tires were conceived and designed by the ATV riders of High Lifter, engineered in Akron, Ohio, the tire capital of the world, and manufactured with pride in Texas (not China, not Taiwan, not Mexico, not Europe), you want a Radial Outlaw.

This tire is the state-of-the-art. It embodies technology and features that have never all been seen together in one tire... and only a few features have been seen in high performance sport tires or light truck tires. There is no utility ATV tire like it in the world.

  • Features include:

    1. Radial construction for glassy smooth ride and longer, wider footprint.
    2. Deep and sharply angled tread bars have cupped leading edge for maximum traction and paddle-like effect in the mud.
    3. The tread bars also feature large sipes for ultimate traction on hard-pack, snow, ice and rocks - over 3,000 biting edges.
    4. Alternating lugs wrap 3 inches down the sidewall of the tire.
    5. This tire is rated 6-ply with TWO Kevlar Belts and so is lightweight, but extremely puncture resistant.
    6. The new Radial Outlaw also features a recessed "wheel bead protector" that shields wheel from impacts with rocks, roots, sticks, etc... prevents bead leaks and bent rims.
    7. The Radial Outlaw was designed by the riders of High Lifter Products, Inc., engineered and manufactured with pride in the USA.
This tire is presently in the testing and development stage. Sizes that will be available first will be: 27x12x12, 27x9.5x12, 26x12x12, 26x9.5x12 with other sizes to follow. Production and availability is expected in late June. Prices are not firm yet, but will be comparable to other premium mud tires.
These are all of the details we are able to release at this time. Additional information will be published as it becomes available.
